Revenge Techniques on Cold Calling

I've been working from home lately, and keep getting these insane phone calls, about one per day, trying to sell me something or convince me I've been selected to win possible selection in a draw to win a place in selection for the final draw for something.

Time to fight back... all these sorry souls who spend their time wating ours, need to suffer!!! It might encourage them to do something more useful with their lives.

All I do now is, when someone starts to rabbit on to me about the benefits of their new face cream, I just quietly and politely say, "could you please hang on a second while I fetch a pen?"

And then gently put the phone down on the table. And leave it there.

The longest someone has held on was close on 10 satisfying minutes.

Life is full of small joys.

Cool... the Resistance is born! Post your record times here. :)

In fact if anyone else has obscenely cruel suggestions for torturing this industry out of existence, let the world know!

hehehe

I used to be a telemarketer so I'm not that mean to them - if they do their job properly. If they get all pushy then it's gloves off!!

hehe nah - no worries. I, too, understand the hatred of telemarketers. But my past work means that I don't hate all of them.. just the ones who don't take "no" or are pushy or basically don't do their jobs properly. They're not trained to be nuisances - it's not like any companies think alienating potential customers is a good thing. So if a telemarketer can't be told a polite No and take the hint.. then I think they invite a little toying. :)

A bit of polite toying is never a bad thing. :)

We all have to unleash the inner kitten once in a while. And telemarketers do make very good balls of yarn sometimes.

Sir, I salute you. *salutes*

My favourite tactic, if it's a guy on the other end, is to start asking them what they're wearing in a low voice...
